At first glimpse seems like the article headline makes little sense, but while South America being in the southern hemisphere does have winter it’s summertime in the northern hemisphere, time of our summer vacations.
With New Year around the corner many people make travel plans for their summer vacation. While the usual destinations like Europe bring lots of North American travelers and destinations such as Argentina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru certainly experience significant drop in temperatures, hence are not ideal time to roam about, visiting Brazil makes perfect sense.
Being a vast country, Brazil certainly gets the effect of the winter lower temperatures but only in the very south, in provinces of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. The popular beach town of Florianopolis is definitely cold at wintertime, and even Rio’s water may feel bit chilly to some, but in general this is perfect time to tour and travel in Brazil.
December to March is time of the carnivals and also time when lots of tourists from all over the world visit. In June, July and August, you can have Brazil practically to yourself. In July, school children have holidays and some of the popular beach resorts, from Buzios to Fortaleza will fill up with Brazilians, but in June, August and September hotels are near empty, rates drop and your tour of Brazil can grow into an adiction.
With five thousand miles of coastline, some of the beaches may get packed on weekends but there are always stretches that are blissfully empty.
But Brazil is far from being a country to visit for beaches alone. Brazil has stunning rainforests and wetlands, wonderful old Portuguese towns teeming in splendid baroque churches and mansions, and restaurants with regional cuisines that have yet to be discovered.
Visit Brazil in summer 2010 for your summer vacation!
